Uckfield Concert Brass led the entertainment at the town’s first Picnic Proms this month.
The event, organised with Uckfield Rugby Club and the Bonfire & Carnival Society, marked the end of the town’s annual arts festival.
The programme included the Proms night favourites Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory and Rule Britannia, featuring mezzo soprano, Niki Ihnatowicz.
The climax of the evening, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, was planned to be accompanied by fireworks. But the risk from unusually dry conditions meant they were cancelled. This didn’t put a damper on the mood: members of the audience shouted “bang” and “ah” in all the right places.
The evening also featured Deb’s Dancers and members of the Harland Primary School choir.
The organisers are now planning to repeat the event next year, probably on a Saturday evening, and hopefully with fireworks.
