UCB adopts composer
Uckfield Concert Brass has won a place on a nationwide scheme to pair performers with a composer to produce a new piece of music.
UCB is one of four successful applicants from across the UK and the only brass group to be picked.
The band is adopting Emily Hazrati, a composer-performer based in London. Together they will work to create a new piece of music, which will be premiered later in 2024.
Emily said on X:
“Excited to be working on a new commission for brass ensemble, premiering @UckfieldConcert later this year.”

Emily Hazrati
Emily has worked with many ensembles and organisations, including the BBC Singers, Royal Opera House, Ligeti Quartet, Psappha, and CHROMA Ensemble.
She is described as a “rising-star composer”. Her music is said to be “spacious, immersive, and environmental, with a focus on storytelling, collaboration, and global politics, as well as ideas around ritual and circularity”.
The band looks forward to meeting her in the next few weeks.
Emily will be mentored by Fraser Trainer, a composer and workshop leader with more than 20 years’ experience. He teaches at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Royal College of Music. He has written for London Sinfonietta, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
The Adopt a Music Creator scheme has been going for nearly 25 years. It has been developed by Making Music, which represents more than a quarter of million musicians in the UK. It is funded by the PRS Foundation and Philip and Dorothy Green Trust.
