Award and AGM news
UCB’s bass section won the band’s first Section of the Year Award, an award made in memory of former band chair and solo trombone, Peter Cowlett, who died in October 2022.

The winning section was voted on by band members and the trophy was presented by musical director, Nick Morris, at the AGM last night (28 November 2023).
The award for most improved player went to second cornet, Robin Creffield (see right).
Elections
The meeting elected a new committee for 2024.
Chair: Dave Pattenden
Secretary: Edwina Wooler
Treasurer and business manager: Rob Brown
Librarian: Karen Packer
Property officer: Simon Kahn
Other committee members: Julie Playford and Ruth Hayhurst
Band members also re-elected the band president, Joy Hughes, and vice-presidents: Doug Scott, Andy Wooler, George Ball, Jane Wright and Ben Martin.
